If you have tried to install Adobe Reader on Server 2012 you see an INTERNAL ERROR OCCURED message and when you click OK, Reader will terminate.

There are two ways around this that I know of:

  1. Right Click on C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe and set the COMPATIBILITY LEVEL to something old like Windows XP
  2. Give up and run FoxItReader from foxitsoftware.com

Officially Adobe says Server 2012 is NOT supported for Adobe Reader.  See THIS Adobe article.

Most likely the problem is related to the use of User Profile Disks on RD Session Host server.
As a workaround, you can turn off safe mode in Adobe Reader. But disabling safe mode in Adobe Reader is not a good idea for a multi-user environment.
As an alternative, you can use Foxit Reader (it’s free without the use of plug-ins). It works fine.
