In versions of Windows 7 and 8 (but NOT 8.1) this tool displayed performance numbers called the WINDOWS PERFORMANCE INDEX shown in the SYSTEM INFORMATION.  In Windows 8.1 WINDOWS PERFORMANCE INDEX is gone but WinSAT still exists and can be run by:

  1. Pressing the WINDOWS KEY + R (to bring up a RUN dialog box)
  2. typing WinSAT.exe formal
