LG is apparently not producing laptops anymore so they have (apparently) stopped posting their recovery software of the LG website… at least I could not find it on the Canada, US, UK or German sites.

This means if your LG laptop has a hard disk failure and you have only the LG RECOVERY DISK that you made when the machine was new… you are screwed.  You have a lovely compressed LG proprietary LB1 file that you can not do anything with.

After searching the web in vain I found a LG X120 Notebook I had which still had a partition that contained the LG SMART RECOVERY software.  I tested it and it appears to be standalone software that lets you recover from the LG RECOVERY partition OR from the LG RECOVERY DISK.

Here is the LG-Smart-Recovery Software.  Just download onto the machine you want to use it on (yes, this means you will need to install an operating system at least temporarily to run the software).

Enjoy!

Hi, I downloaded this program to recover my LG laptop to factory image. When I run the program, an error message appears saying “Total partition number is not valid”. The recovery partition is still available, and I can see it from Disk Management. Any help to recover my laptop.

Thanks

I am sorry to say it sounds like your disk has confused partitions and likely needs to be completely wiped out. LG has done a terrible job of supporting their laptops.

I deleted some files inside the recovery partition. Since you have a good partition, would you mind to share your recovery partition (in Ghost, or other format) before it extinct?

Sorry but I no longer have this device. I wiped it and sold it about a year ago 🙁

I don’t know if this is still relevant 18 months on, but I have an image of the LG X130 recovery partition. Uploaded to https://yadi.sk/d/VSJDX52s3FKVJ8 in WIM (Windows Imaging) format. Let me know if you need instructions on how this can be applied to the netbook hard drive.

Hi! My LG is X140. I had clean all HD and shortcut F11 didn’t work any more. So, I tryed many times to use the W8 and W10, but there is the same message: “The System was not found”.

Could you please send to me the procedure to install the recovery program?

Is it possible to use the old Win98 SE? I believe it is a pretty light… However, I don’t have the ISO image.

If you can help me I’ll really appreciate. Thanks

What do I need to do for the installation. Like disk partitioning to run F11. Do you have a Windows 7 backup file?

Ian, I am getting the same message as menac “Not Found UI String File” what version of windows did you install? I installed a fresh copy of windows 8.1 pro 64 bit.

    Hi;

I have done no testing with the LG software and Win8.1… sorry 🙁

menac · February 25, 2014 at 10:46 am

Thanks for providing this zip file. When I run the LGSmartRecovery.exe it says “Not Found UI String File”. I think is because I installed a brand new hard drive (old one died), and it doesn’t have the initial LG Recovery setup on it. I made a 4GB partition at the start of the disk for LG Recovery, but I don’t know how to do the initial install. Any suggestions?

Hi. I had to install on a new hard disk with new Windows as well and that did function without problem. I would call LG and ask them what to do if this does not work for you, sorry I can not be of more assistance.

I have download your LG smart recovery software but it just support a .LSI format for backup files. I have LG-c400 and my backup files have .wsi and .dsi file formats. Can you please provide a recovery with said file formats.

I will be very obliged for your support.

thanks,
aalio
