Outlook 2013 does not “pop out” a new window when composing a new email message… and that is annoying.  There are two ready ways to fix this.  Either through the GUI or through the Office Customization Tool (for those of you with corporate licenses.

Something important to note is that Microsoft does NOT have its verbage down for this function.  Depending upon where you are looking for it, you might see it called:

  1. Pop Out Compose
  2. Inline Compose
  3. Reading Pane Compose

…and now, how to fix this:

  1. In Outlook click FILE > OPTIONS > MAIL (from the menu on the left)
  2. Scrll to REPLIES AND FORWARDSuncheck
  3. UN-check USE INLINE REPLIES WHEN REPLYING OR FORWARDING

disable-inline-compose-outlook-2013If you are deploying Office 2013 to many stations, you can use the Office Customization Tool:

  1. MODIFY USER SETTINGS > MICROSOFT OFFICE 2013 > MAIL > COMPOSE MESSAGES
  2. set DISABLE READING PANE COMPOSE to ENABLE
