If your voice commands (aka voice typing and voice keyboard) on your Android cell when you are:

  • creating a text
  • creating an email
  • asking Google a question

and you see OFFLINE MODE UNAVAILABLE, it may be that you do not live in the United States and that is apparently a problem for Google.

In my case this problem started showing up as soon as I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S6 from Android 5 to Android 6 (Marshmallow).  Eighty percent of the time, my voice commands would fail with OFFLINE MODE UNAVALABLE appearing.

I found a simple solution was to change my VOICE LANGUAGE from ENGLISH (CANADA) to ENGLISH (US) by:

  1. Tap the cog on the OFFLINE MODE UNAVAILABLE error
  2. Tap LANGUAGES
  3. UNcheck your local language which in my case was ENGLISH (CANADA)
  4. Check ENGLISH (US)
  5. Tap SAVE
  6. Have a nice day

Doing this, everything will be spelled incorrectly now though, won’t it? Colour = color, honour = honor, etc.

It is obnoxious but that is the “fix” I have found 🙁
