I recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 24″ All In One with a touch screen and added my old Acer T231H 24″ as a second screen.  When I touched the Acer, the mouse would move on the Dell… this is not good.  Because I was using a beta of Windows 10 (slow ring), I thought that the build of Windows I was using had a problem (just like in the video below, although that is not my computer) but that was not the problem.

I should have gone through the usual Touch Screen Troubleshooting routines (below) because I was able to fix it in about 30 seconds.

TOUCH SCREEN FIXES IN WINDOWS 10

  1. Disable and Re-enable the Human Interface Device (HID) driver on your touch screens:

    1. Fix-touch-screen-device-manager-disable-enableRight click on the START button and select DEVICE MANAGER
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices
    3. Right click on any HID-COMPLIANT TOUCH SCREEN and select DISABLE
    4. Right click the same HID-COMPLIANT TOUCH SCREEN and select ENABLE
This is what corrected my problem of touching one screen having the mouse move on a different screen
      .
  2. Fix-touch-screen-device-manager-update-driverUpdate Drivers

    1. Right click on the START button and select DEVICE MANAGER
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices
    3. Right click on any HID-COMPLIANT TOUCH SCREEN and select UPDATE DRIVER
    4. Try SEARCH AUTOMATICALLY… first
      1. if that fails to find anything better than what you have now, go to the manufacturers website and look for drivers
        .
  3. Fix-touch-screen-control-panel-pen-touchCheck PEN & TOUCH Settings

    1. Get into the CONTROL PANEL
    2. Change the VIEW BY (top right corner) to SMALL ICONS
    3. Double click on PEN AND TOUCH and make sure everything looks happy
      .
  4. Fix-touch-screen-control-panel-tablet-pc-settingsCalibrate Touch Screen

    1. Get into the CONTROL PANEL
    2. Change the VIEW BY (top right corner) to SMALL ICONS
    3. Double Click on Tablet PC Settings
    4. Click the SETUP button and run through the wizard
    5. Click CALIBRATE and run through the wizard
    6. Click RESET to reset your touch screen to factory defautls
    7. Click GO TO ORIENTATION to setup which way the screen is rotated
      .

If none of these work for you try traditional hardware troubleshooting techniques.

  1. Make sure the USB cable on your touch screen is connected to your PC.

    1. I know this sounds obvious, but check it all the same
      .
  2. Try a different USB cable
    .

  3. Restart your PC
    .

  4. Test The Monitor On Someone Elses Computer
    .

  5. Run the HARDWARE TROUBLESHOOTER

    1. This is only applicable to some builds of Windows 10 because MS updates the troubleshooters all the time, so don’t panic if you don’t see it
      1. Click START and type TROUBLESHOOT SETTINGS
      2. Click HARDWARE TROUBLESHOOTER
      3. Run through the wizard
        .
  6. Fix-touch-screen-device-manager-uninstall-touch-screen-scan-for-hardware-changesForce Windows To ‘Plug and Play’ The Touch Screen Again

    1. Right click on the START button and select DEVICE MANAGER
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices
    3. Right click on any HID-COMPLIANT TOUCH SCREEN and select UNINSTALL DEVICE
      1. If given the option (depends on the build of Windows 10 you have and the driver installed), select UNINSTALL DRIVER SOFTWARE
    4. Either reboot your PC or right click on the name of the PC and select SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES
      .

I’ve developed a useful tool which separates your mouse input from your touchscreen input. This way your mouse pointer does not get repositioned every time you tap on your touchscreen. I made this software because this problem basically makes it impossible (or at least impractical) to use a touchscreen as a secondary monitor with a mix console. Anyway please try my software as it solves this problem and makes life with multiple touchscreen / non-touchscreen monitors a lot easier.

Working Solution Planar Touchscreen windows 10. PXL2430MW, I was having trouble with this screen and here’s what ultimately fixed the touch screen. In the US we use 60 Hz power frequency. Windows 10 was automatically selecting 59.940 Hz and my touch screen was not working under these conditions.
SOLUTION:
1. Hit the WINDOWS KEY & type settings
2. Click on DISPLAY
3. Scroll to bottom of page and click on ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTINGS
4. Select 60.000 Hz and then keep if your screen is ok.
Now try the touch screen again.
These settings will not work for all but I have had this screen for years and it definitely fixed my issue.
Also make sure there is not dirt build up around the lip of the screen all the way around. If there is dust, the optical sensor on the top corner edges will not be able to see pen/finger.

Go to “screen solution” in the main screen????

My solution for this problem is as follow:

1- Go to “screen resolution” in the main screen.
2.-Select “duplicate screens”.
3.-Go to “Calibrate touch screen” in “Panel Control” and select “Tablet PC settings”.
4.- Check if both screens have “touch control” activated; calibrate if necessary selecting the active touch screen.
5.- Go again to “screen resolution” and select “Expand or extend these screens”.

In this way the touch pannel is activated in the correct screen.
