If you have an older Ricoh, Savin, Gestetner, Lanier multifunction printer, fax, scanner it may not support SMB 2.0 and Server 2016 and Server 2019 do not support SMB 1.0 which means SCAN TO FOLDER is a problem.

To get around this we demonstrate all of the steps required to download, install and configure a free FTP Server, then how to configure your Ricoh scanner to talk to that FTP server.

  1. Download and install Free FileZilla Server
    1. In FileZilla Server, create a user account for your SCANNER
    2. In FileZilla Server, point that user to a folder and give it full permissions
  2. Poke a hole in the Firewall for FileZilla
    1. Launch FIREWALL WITH ADVANCED SECURITY
    2. Click INBOUND RULES (near top left)
    3. Click NEW RULE… (top right)
    4. Leave it on PROGRAM, click NEXT
    5. Browse to your FILEZILLA server
    6. Next, Next, Next to the end
  3. Configure the in Ricoh Scanner
    1. Log in as the Admin
    2. click ADDRESS BOOK
    3. click ADD USER
    4. Click SPECIFY OTHER AUTH INFO BELOW in the FOLDER AUTHENTICATION section
    5. Set the user and password
    6. Scroll down to FOLDER SECTION and set PROTOCOL to FTP
    7. Enter the IP address of your FileZilla FTP server
    8. Optionally enter a FOLDER name

Excellent explanatory video! Thank you so much. I was unaware of this limitation and I was in vain trying to configure SMB with an old Ricoh printer for an school supply shop here in Argentina. All solved with URTech solution!

Wonderful Maartineez. This was frustrating us too. I am glad we could help from here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada!

Thank you. I had to give up on SMB and move to FTP so I could replace my old Server 2012 with Server 2016 and this really helped
