If you install an M.2 drive into a PC there is a good chance that Windows and the BIOS will not see that disk. Most BIOS’ are configured for RAID even if there is only one disk.  Because M.2 disks are not SATA it would be logical to set SATA to disabled in the BIOS, however if you do that on most Dell’s and HP’s the BIOS and therefore Windows will not see the drives.

The solution is to set the BIOS to use AHCI as shown below (click to expand the pictures).
