We explain, configure and install the Dell Ultra Speed Drive Quad NVMe M2 Disk PCIe Adapter using Windows Storage Spaces with Resiliant File System (ReFS).

This Dell PCIe x16 NVMe adapter can host up to 4x NVMe M.2 solid state drives, providing super fast I/O of up to 9GB/s sequential read and 6GB/s sequential write speeds. This product is natively supported by recent generations of Dell Precision workstations (T5810/5820, T7810/7820, T7910/7920, and R7910/7920). Other systems with PCIe bifurcation support will need to change the BIOS settings for enabling PCIe 3.0 x16 bifurcation (x4x4x4x4).

If you are having problems buying Dell Ultra Speed Drive Quad directly from Dell, you can find it on Amazon:

Hi,
For the dell 5490 can you run the nvme/80 and an SSD 3.5 booting from the nvme?
I have an MSI and want to transfer the 2 drives to the 5490 without wiping them.

    Hi Len;

    I would not be surprised either way but I did not try to make it bootable so I can not confirm it will work. It should be easy to try; just disconnect your old/current drives, plug in the card, install a fresh Win10 and see what happens.

Hi! I have a T7810 and am considering setting up an NVMe RAID. However, I can’t find any evidence (including calling dell) that the T7810 supports PCIe bifurcation. You say in your video that this card (which requires PCIe bifurcation) is natively supported by the T7810 – can you confirm?

    Hi Cacois; Unfortunately I cannot confirm that. I can say that I successfully ran the card on a T7810, BUT I have now shipped that machine to a different city and no longer have access to it. I hope that helps

    I have a T7810 and can confirm the m/b supports bifurcation. Its buried in the Dell documentation concerning the T7810 and your comment about Dell support not being able to advise you is typical. Its the reason I purchased the Dual CPU T7810 in the first place but I went with an after market off Amazon, not the Dell adapter which was super super expensive. Running beside a SFF RTX2060 and all at full speed. 4 x 1TB NVMe scratch disk in Stablebit DrivePool with another single 512GB 970Pro in a single adapter on the PCIe3x8 slot above the GPU as the boot drive. 2x8TB SATA HDD’s for backing it all up. Bit of a tight fit and had to add an ejecting case fan to the back to ensure extra airflow because those NVMe drives getting smoking hot but all works together and is super responsive.
    Make sure your BIOS is absolutely the latest too!

      Good Day. I no longer have access to this machine so I cannot confirm it supports bifucation but I can confirm this card worked for my client in TWO of the T series machines T78xx and T58xx and both cards came from Amazon, not Dell . I hope that helps.

I have Dell precision T5810 computer with Bios version A33 and Dell Ultra Speed Drive Quad NVMe M2 Disk PCIe Adapter I install it the computer dosen’t see it bios boot up. Is their something I’m doing wrong

    Ian Matthews · September 18, 2020 at 11:38 am

    Hi Robert;

    I had installed these into T5610’s and new T7000 Dell Precisions but my client is pulling out of the country and I just shipped these units to Norway so I don’t have access to them. That being said, I do have a few ideas:

    – reset the BIOS/UEFI to factory defaults
    – change the BIOS settings for enabling PCIe 3.0 x16 bifurcation (x4x4x4x4)
    – confirm what Windows sees by checking DEVICE MANAGER, DISK MANAGER and potentially STORAGE SPACES

    I recall that I could not get at least one of the systems to BOOT from the card, but Windows was happy to use the ‘disk’ via STORAGE SPACES.

    Keep me in the loop.

    Thanks and stay safe.
