If you don’t have a mobile phone, or like in my case, you need your cell for something else (like shooting a video) at the same time you need to send a text, you are in luck.
There are 3 simply ways to send a text without using a cell phone:
1 – Send Texts Through a Free Website Service
There are MANY websites that will send an text message without registering or going through any hoops. Companies like A Free SMS, Send SMS Now, SendaText make their money off the advertising on their web pages.
2 – Email to Text
If you know the company that the recipient is on you can send a text to them using their text email address. A text email address is just the phone-number@text.domain.com
For instance if I want to send a message to a buddy of mine with cell number 403-252-9665 who uses Telus, I would email 403-252-9665@msg.telus.com.

3 – Use Google Voice to Send Text Messages
Google Voice is a (mostly) free service which you can send and receive texts using your computer:
- On your PC or laptop, surf to voice.google.com
- Click to open Messages tab
- Click Send A Message (at the top)
- Enter the recipients cell phone number
- Type in your text message
- Click Send

That last one.. google voice requires a phone to sign up. No phone .. no google voice.
