If you need to make changes to your ADS.TXT file and need to start again, you may want to download a fresh copy from Google AdSense.  In our case, we cut back on the number of advertising partners we had and wanted to remove any dead links.  We now use only AdSense and Taboola.

We confirmed with Google AdSense support that there is no way to request a download for ADS.TXT file from AdSense; their system only provides the well known FIX IT link to download ADS.TXT when none exists or Google thinks it is corrupted.

There are two ready solutions to this problem.

  1. Delete or rename the ADS.TXT file you are current using (in the root of your site).  Wait about a day, surf to the Google AdSense site, click the FIX IT link at the top of the page.
  2. Manually create the ADS.TXT for AdSense, which is actually quite simple
    • Using a plain text editor like Notepad enter the following in a single line:
      google.com, <your Google publisher ID>, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
      ours is:
      google.com, pub-8112679970043366, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
    • add any other entries that are required from other advertising partners you may have
