We have been using Virtualdub to stabalize video and make changes to other aspects like compression for more than a decade now and we rarely have errors that do not have obvious solutions.

Today, however, our stabalization errored out in Virtual dub with the error:
vdffvideosource – decodeframe – discontinuity larger than in options

After goofing around with setting and running several trial and error passes we gave up and just decided to cut out the offending frames:

To fix VirtualDub errors:

  • Click Video (menu)
  • Click SELECT RANGE
  • Set the frames you want to encode
    • obviously omitting the frames VirtualDub has a problem with
