We use Cloudflare to help protect our websites from malicious actors as well as to improve performance around the globe. Cloudflare has an excellent content delivery network and we use that on all of our sites.

cloudflare not caching overview

Our problem was that one of our sites was showing zero visitors, zero requests, and zero caching even though the CACHING LEVEL was set to STANDARD, TTL = 4 HOURS, CRAWLER HINTS is ON, ALWAYS ONLINE is ON.

We compared this to our other sites, which had great caching from Cloudflare, but could not find the problem. Then one of our tech’s took a look at it with fresh eyes and noticed our DNS Proxy was configured to DNS ONLY. BINGO!

The solution was to change both the A record for the site and the CName for the matching www to PROXIED.
