mini menu-settings-in-ms-edge

While working on an unrelated Edge browser problem, I ran into settings for the Mini Menu which I had seen before but not had the time to investigate.

The Microsoft Edge Mini Menu is a small context menu that appears automatically when you select text on a webpage. This feature provides the following quick access actions:

  • Copy: Copies the selected text to your clipboar
  • Search: Searches the selected text using your default search engine (usually Bing)
  • Define: Provides a definition of a single word, using a built-in dictionary
  • Ask Copilot: Sends the selected text to Microsoft’s Copilot AI for a quick summary or other queries

If you click on the screenshot to the right, you will see both the mini menu and the full context menu.

This menu is an alternative to the traditional right-click context menu and is designed to streamline common tasks. You can disable the Mini Menu entirely or for specific websites through the browser’s settings.

How to Manage the Mini Menu

You can turn the Mini Menu on or off in Edge’s settings.

  1. In Edge, click the three-dot settings menu (…) in the top-right corner and select Settings
  2. In the left sidebar, click Appearance
  3. Scroll down to Context menus
  4. Toggle the “Show mini menu when selecting text” option on or off

The screenshot you provided shows the “Manually added sites” section, which allows you to disable the mini menu for specific websites while keeping it enabled for others. This gives you more control over the feature without having to turn it off completely.

The Wrap

Personally, we don’t think the mini-menu adds much other than complexity, but you may like it.
