You may have heard that Microsoft and Google/YouTube are making it harder to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. We pioneered this super-simple method to upgrade to Windows 11 on unsupported hardware below 9 months ago:

So now that Windows 10 is officially dead, we decided to test it:

how to install Windows 11 25H2 on unsupported hardware
  1. Downloaded a fresh copy of Windows 10 22H2 using the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool
  2. Installed this last version of Window 10 on an ancient Dell Optiplex 9020 that only has a lowly 1.2 TPM, so it is not supported
  3. Downloaded a fresh copy of Windows 11 25H2 using the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool
  4. Brought up a PowerShell as an ADMIN (but we could have used CMD or even Windows Terminal)
  5. Changed to D:\SOURCES
  6. Ran SETUPPREP /PRODUCT SERVER

Then we let it run. Twenty five minutes later we had Windows 11 25H2 running on our old unsupported Dell 9020 with no problems. We then ran a Windows Update and rebooted and again found, no problems, alerts, or errors.

So we can definitively state that our super-easy method of installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware still works beautifully.

What Are The Hardware Requirements for Windows 11

Our simple process that does not require any software utilities, registry hacks or other nonsense, gets around most of these Windows 11 25H2 requirements (below) because it the setup routines think they are installing Windows Server. Specifically, it does not check the CPU for POPCNT and SSE4.2, the TPM or video card.

As soon as the first reboot is complete, the system knows it is actually installing Windows 11 25H2 and all is well.

The Wrap

Windows 11 will still install on unsupported hardware quickly and easily. You do not need to be technical, you do not need some weird software utility program, and you do not need to hack the registry. Our process of making Windows 11 installer think it is installing Windows Server is simply and fast.

Keep older computers out of the landfill, save yourself some money, and improve your cyber-security all with Windows 11.

You can do it.
