SOLVED: Server 2012 Remote Desktop Folder Redirection To Client PC

If you want to use Group Policy Folder Redirection for (my) DOCUMENTS or (my) DESKTOP:

• USER CONFIGURATION > WINDOWS SETTINGS > FOLDER REDIRECTION > DOCUMENTS

you can but it has to be to on an SMB share.  Let me explain.

You can access a client PC from a Terminal Server using either:

1. \\tsclient\c\
   or
2. \\%clientname%\share

BUT Folder Redirection is ONLY supported to the second of those options, an SMB SHARE.  You cannot set your Group Policy Folder Redirection to:

• BASIC, REDIRECT TO THE FOLLOWING LOCATION, \\tsclient\c\

but you can set it to:

• BASIC, REDIRECT TO THE FOLLOWING LOCATION, \\%clientname%\share

Note that I confirmed with Microsoft Partner support that you CAN use both User Profile Disks AND GP Folder Redirection at the same time. (Thank you Steven at Microsoft)
