SOLVED: Veeam Error Copying Data from Deduplicated Volumes Requires That The Console Is Installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 or Later

When performing file restores using Veeam you may see an error that says: Copying Data from Deduplicated Volumes Requires That The Console Is Installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 or Later.  This message appears when the data you are restoring was originally stored on a server with Windows Data Deduplication enabled.

Fortunately all you need to do to get around it is to install the Data Dededuplication Console on the server that hosts your Veeam.  You do not need to configure it or even reboot… just install Data Deduplication which you can easily do by:

  1. Launching SERVER MANAGER
  2. Selecting ADD ROLES AND FEATURES
  3. Select your server
  4. Click NEXT through to SERVER ROLES
  5. Expand FILE AND STORAGE SERVICES
  6. Expand FILE AND iSCSI SERVICES
  7. Add a check to DATA DEDUPLICATION
  8. Click NEXT to the end
  9. Try your Veeam restore again and have a nice day

  • Had this error on our Veeam Host server when trying to restore some vital information, turning on this feature enabled us to do the restore and got us out of a sticky situation. Thanks
