SOLVED: How to Change the Quality of Video on Netflix, YouTube, Roku & ChromeCast?

It turns out that because everyone is at home, the internet is getting overloaded with people working from home and other streaming video.  So much so that Netflix is forceably reducing the quality of video for all people in some countries and regions like Europe and the UK.

If you want to do your part to keep the economy moving, you can free up some bandwidthe by reduce the quality your video streaming:

Change The Quality of Video on Netflix:

To save bandwidth on your Netflix:

  1. Sign in to Netflix.com using a browser on a computer
  2. Select the profile you’d like to change your data usage settings for
  3. Select Playback Settings
  4. Set your DATA USAGE PER SCREEN to LOW or MEDIUM
  5. Click SAVE

NOTE 1 – The changes will take effect within 8 hours.

NOTE 2 – This is a per profile setting so you need to go back to step 2 and click through each of your profiles

NOTE 3 – Data usage settings cannot be adjusted from a Kids profile

Change The Quality of Video on YouTube:

  1. Click the settings COG icon at the bottom right of the YouTube player window
  2. Click VIDEO QUALITY
  3. Change from AUTO to something like 480P

 

Change The Quality of Video on Roku:

  1. On the RoKU main screen click SETTINGS
  2. Select DISPLAY TYPE
  3. Change from AUTO to 720P

 

Change The Quality of Video on ChromeCast

  1. On your cellphone, download an app called SECOND SCREEN
  2. Launch Second Screen
  3. select 720P
