Windows To Go is a Microsoft Windows 8 feature that allows you to install a fully functional version of Windows 8 on a thumbdrive/ usb stick.

However, you CAN’T install it… not yet anyway.  It is NOT included in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Interesting facts about ToGo:

  • To protect the data on the host PC and avoid confusion when saving files, the internal hard drive(s) will be disabled by ToGo.  You will not be able to see the local disks.
  • If you remove a Win8 ToGo stick while it is in use, you have 60 seconds to put it back in before the system crashes and data is lost
  • Sleep and Hibernate are disabled for obvious reasons
  • Microsoft thinks this will be the big “BYOD” Bring Your Own Device solution for companies.

Hopefully technet.microsoft.com/library/hh831833.aspx will provide more details in the future.
