For many years I have been vigorously opposed to copyright extensions, like the Sonny Bono Act.  The nut of the argument is that copyright was intended to protect creative works and allow the author to generate revenue from that creative work for a reasonable time.  Personally I think a reasonable time is 40 (ish) years.  My suggested time is based on this logic, if you create something about the time you are 30 years old, you will own it completely until you about 70 years old.

This video does a good job of explaining some of the issues around this complex issue.  The public, thats you, MUST be engaged or at least aware of the issue.  While almost everyone would agree that Disney produces high quality enjoyable products, it can be said that Disney has been at the forefront of Copyright extensions and that is why I personally avoid Disney products.
