SOLVED: How To End Your Free Trial on MyHeritage.com

Recently we created a video explaining and demonstrating how to use How To Animate Old Photos Into Movies For Free using MyHeritage.com‘s artificial intelligence system.  We did this using their free 14 day trial and now we need to cancel that trial so we don’t have to pay $125 for running a test.

The problem is that MyHeritage has been accused of making cancellation difficult and being non-responsive to cancellation support requests.   So, we decided to explain what some people are doing wrong when they are trying to cancel their accounts and how to cancel a MyHeritage.com account properly.

From reading complaints it appears that some people are:

  1. Uninstalling the app or not visiting the MyHeritage website but that will NOT stop the billing.
  2. Logging into their MyHeritage.com account clicking through their account information until they hit upon DELETE MY ACCOUNT, but that will NOT stop the billing.

From what we can tell, DELETE MY ACCOUNT only deletes your personal data and not your billing information.

To cancel your MyHeritage.com’s billing you have four choices:

A: Cancel MyHeritage Through Apple or Google

IF you setup MyHeritage account using a mobile phone app, that is where you cancel it, but you can log into their store webpages and kill the account there.

Here is where I canceled my MyHeritage account on Google and Apple has a similar process:

  1. Surf to play.google.com
  2. Click MY SUBSCRIPTIONS
  3. Click on MYHERITAGE
  4. Click CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION

B: Cancel MyHeritage through the app Google Play Store or Apple App Store App

IF you setup MyHeritage account using their mobile app, that is where you cancel it:

Android Instructions:
  1. Open your store app on your Android mobile phone / tablet
  2. Click the SETTINGS icon (the three horizontal bars in the top left corner)
  3. Click SUBSCRIPTIONS
  4. Click on the MyHeritage subscription
  5. Click the CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION link
iOS Instructions:
  1. Open SETTINGS on your Apple mobile phone / tablet
  2. Click your name (top of the screen)
  3. Click SUBSCRIPTIONS
  4. Click on the MyHeritage subscription
  5. Click the CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION link

C: Cancel MyHeritage Through Their Website

IF you setup MyHeritage account using their website, that is where you cancel it:

  1. Surf to MyHeritage.com and sign in
  2. Click your name (top right corner)
  3. Click MY PURCHASES (left menu)
  4. Click DATA SUBSCRIPTIONS
  5. Click VIEW DETAILS
  6. Click STOP FREE TRIAL

D: Use a Service To Cancel MyHeritage

We have NOT used this type of service so we cannot vouche for it, but we know others do so we thought it was worth noting.

There are companies like DoNotPay.com that will manage and cancel your unwanted subscriptions for you.

How To Remove Your Personal Data From MyHeritage.com

Once you have canceled your account, you likely want to remove all of the data you gave them.  This is easy to do.

  1. Surf to MyHeritage.com and sign in
  2. Click your name (top right)
  3. Click your account information
  4. Click DELETE MY ACCOUNT

There are two confirmations you need to approve and bingo your data is gone.

Hopefully, you receive confirmation emails like these informing you your account and data have been killed:

  • Don't ever try the "7 day trial" membership on myheritage.com. You can cancel the "data subscription" but not the "site subscription" and you will think you cancelled your membership, but you will be charged for the "basic" site membership at $7.95 per month times 12 for an annual membership and they will claim that you didn't cancel "in time." It's a total scam.
