By now you have likely heard that Microsoft has announced and demonstrated their latest Surface Tablet offering cleverly named ‘3’.  Surface Pro 3 is intended to replace corporate executives ultrabooks and laptops (like the Toshiba Portege R830 and the Apple ‘Air’).  It is lighter, thinner, faster than nearly all of the them and it has a 12″ screen which crushes most tablets.

Take a lsurface-pro-3-keyboard-upook (in the picture to the right) at how the keyboard snaps up to the screen to give you a slight angle to type on… like a real keyboard.  This is also highlighted in the video at the bottom of this post.

Below are the full specs:

  • 7.93 in x 11.5 in x 0.36 inches (201.4 x 292.1 x 9.1 mm)
  • Weight: 1.76 pounds (800g)
  • 12-inch ClearType display with 2560 x 1440 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio
  • 4th-generation Core i3/Core i5/ Core i7 processor
  • 4/8GB of RAM
  • 64/128/256/512GB of SSD Storage
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/802.11 a/b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE support
  • microSD card support
  • USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort connectivity
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p HD recording
  • 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD recording
  • 36W power supply
  • up to 9 hours battery life
  • Windows 8.1 Pro
  • ‘Surface Pen’ Stylus included

There are new accessories for the Surface Pro 3 including a Surface Pro Type Cover, a Docking Station and a Surface Ethernet Adapter.

At this time you can not specify the amount of RAM you want.  The 64 and 128GB models ship with 4GB of RAM and 256 and 512GB models ship with 8GB of RAM.

The Surface Pro 3 has a new kick stand design and the while the old keyboards will work (but not the battery in the Power Cover) from the Surface and Surface 2, there is a new connector that will allow new keyboards to connect more securely.

I just cancelled my orders for Dell Venue 11’s until I can get my hands on this and see what it can do.
