SOLVED: CRM Online Solution Install Error ID: ErrorOnAuthorizationCheck

If you are trying to install a Solution into Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Office 365 and see INSTALLATION FAILED or Error ID: ErrorOnAuthorizationCheck, there is a simple solution.  This may be two problems and not one both of which you can work around easily.

1 – CRM – INSTALLATION FAILED errordynamics-crm-solution-installation-failed

The problem may be recently increased security means that some CRM Solutions will not install through the normal process of surfing to the CRM Portal, selecting your Instance, clicking SOLUTIONS, selecting your desired Solution and clicking INSTALL.  You now have to perform some installs through the APPLICATIONS.  Click HERE for details.  If you do you might see

INSTALLATION FAILED – SOLUTION INSTALLATION FAILURE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, PLEASE CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Some Solutions, like VOICE OF THE CUSTOMER require you add it from the APPLICATIONS menu:

  1. Surf to the CRM Portal
  2. Click APPLICATIONS (top menu)
  3. Click on the Solution you want to add (just ignore that it may say CONFIGURED already)
  4. Click the MANAGE link
  5. Select your desired Instance
  6. Click the check box on ACCEPT THE DYNAMICS 365 SOFTWARE LICENCE…
  7. Click INSTALL

2 – CRM – ErrorOnAuthorizationCheck

At this point you might see:

AN dynamics-crm-solution-installation-error-id-ErrorOnAuthorizationCheckERROR HAS OCCURED. PLEASE TRY AGAIN AFTER CLOSING THE CURRENT BROWSER OR CONTACT SUPPORT FOR ASSISTANCE. ERROR ID:: ERRORONAUTHORIZATIONCHECK

If this happens, you were likely signed in using and Active Directory synced account.  According to Microsoft support, there is a bug that results in Solutions installation not being able to verify the permissions of AD accounts.  The work around is easy; use a cloud only account that is a Global Admin and has an CRM Pro license:

  1. Sign into https://portal.office.com
  2. Click USERS (left menu)
  3. Click ADD A USER (button on top)
  4. Enter a first and last name
  5. Expand ROLES and select GLOBAL ADMINISTRATOR
  6. Expand MICROSOFT DYNAMICS CRM ONLINE PRO and assign this user a license
  7. Click the ADD button (bottom of the screen)
  8. Surf to the CRM Portal
  9. Click APPLICATIONS (top menu)
  10. Click on the Solution you want to add (just ignore that it may say CONFIGURED already)
  11. Click the MANAGE link
  12. Select your desired Instance
  13. Click the check box on ACCEPT THE DYNAMICS 365 SOFTWARE LICENCE…
  14. Click INSTALL

After about 5 minutes the install should complete and you should be happy.
